Lisle, Snyder Take 36-Hole Leads at Dustin Johnson World Junior
Round 2 of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship brought another beautiful day to TPC Myrtle Beach, where sunny skies and temperatures around 70 degrees greeted the field. While conditions remained ideal, stronger winds throughout the day added an extra challenge for players competing in one of junior golf’s premier championships.
After 36 holes, William Lisle leads the boys division at 3-under-par 141, while Alexandra Snyder holds the girls division lead at 5-under-par 139 heading into Sunday’s final round.
Lisle Moves Into Boys Division Lead
Lisle followed an opening round of 71 with a 2-under-par 70 in Round 2, moving him into the solo lead entering the final day of competition.
The round was highlighted by steady ball striking and consistent putting. Lisle credited his overall approach to keeping the round under control.
“Played pretty solid. Driver I was hitting pretty well and I was hitting my irons solid,” Lisle said. “Overall I just hit fairways and greens and made a lot of short putts.”
While he admitted his long-range pace control wasn’t perfect, he converted several key short putts to keep momentum throughout the round.
“Made a lot of four or five footers and that made up for it,” he said.
Lisle also noted the increased wind as a factor during the round.
“I aimed on the bunkers and let the wind take it a little bit,” he said.
Entering the final round, Lisle plans to keep his strategy simple.
“Just keep it solid, fairways and greens and avoid the dumb mistakes.”
Three players sit just two shots behind the leader at 1-under-par 143: Sohan Patel, Jackson Ormond, and Drew Woolworth, setting up a tightly contested final round.
Four additional players remain within three shots of the lead at even-par 144, including Kailer Stone, Hampton Beebe, and Round 1 co-leaders Stuart Boulware and Chase Bauer.
Following the completion of Round 2, the field was reduced after the tournament cut, with players inside the top 36 and ties advancing to the final round.
Snyder Surges to Girls Division Lead
In the girls division, Alexandra Snyder delivered the standout performance of the day, firing a 4-under-par 68, the lowest round of the tournament so far, to take the 36-hole lead at 5-under 139.
Snyder began her round steadily before an early eagle shifted the momentum.
“I started off with four straight pars and then got to the par five and holed out for eagle,” Snyder said. “I think that kind of switched the momentum of my round.”
She continued to build on that momentum late in the round with birdies coming down the stretch.
“I made a putt for birdie on the par five and then birdied eight and nine, so that helped me today.”
As the wind picked up during the afternoon, Snyder adjusted her strategy accordingly.
“It started getting pretty windy on the back nine, so I was just playing to the middle of the green and two-putting,” she said. “I had to hit some lower shots and take more club because the wind was pretty strong.”
Snyder enters the final round with a three-shot lead over Michelle Xing, who sits in second place at 2-under-par 142.
Two players remain within striking distance at 1-under-par 143: Ein Kim and Macie Rasmussen.
Snyder said her approach for the final round will remain focused on her own game.
“Just playing my own game and not worrying about the other girls,” she said.
Final Round Set
With one round remaining in the 54-hole championship, both leaderboards remain competitive heading into Sunday at TPC Myrtle Beach.
Several players in the boys division remain within a few shots of the lead, while Snyder will attempt to maintain her advantage in the girls division.
The final round of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship will determine who adds their name to the growing list of champions in one of junior golf’s most prestigious events.
